UTM PRIME CATTLE

A decent quality entry of prime cattle but few standout butchers’ types.

Trade remains similar to recent weeks with Truro prices at least as good as other regional markets.

Top price per kilo was 187p for a Limousin x steer from Mr. E.G. Benney of Mawnan Smith purchased by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

Premium heifer at 183p/kg was a super 593kg Limousin x from Messrs. W.H. & L.M. Williams & Son of Allet bought by Harvey Bros. Butchers of St. Ives, Penzance and Newlyn.

Demand for well-covered cows with a premium of 129p/kg for a Limousin x for Mr. R. Withers of Probus and a top price of £934 for biggest 805kg cow from a super entry of Limousins from Messrs. K.P. & A. Sowden of Constantine, both bought by David Ellis of Lelant.

Top Friesian at 125p/kg and £868 for Messrs. S. Wallis & Son of Helston and purchased by Messrs. Rapson of Tavistock.

A grand trio of 15/16mo South Devon steers from Mr. R.K. Rundle of Kestle Mill topped the day at £1,005.

A pair of 14 month old Limousin x steers from Messrs. E.W. & J.D.T.R. Rolling of Mount Ambrose sold at £845 with young Hereford crosses from the same farm to £730.

Leading the heifers at £775 were a young pair of Devon x Charolais for Mr. B.J. Maycock of Rosenannon.
