Agricultural contractors and farmers from across the south west are invited to the launch of the 'Farm Crap App' at North Wyke Farm, near Okehampton, Devon.

The event, run by Rothamsted Research and their project partner Duchy College, includes a morning session on making silage before the launch of the new app in the afternoon.

This organisations' silage project seeks to determine the optimum mixtures and conditions which will ensure high quality silage production from diverse plant mixtures - this includes choice of: varieties, cutting time, wilting length, additives – inoculates and enzymes and clamp / bale conditions.

The afternoon will feature the launch of the Farm Crap App Pro - a fully integrated nutrient management planning mobile phone app. This session will include a demonstration of the app and trial of the app by the delegates. The app could provide contractors with a new service to offer clients, and farmers a way to progress nutrient management and environmental planning on-farm.

Kate Le Cocq of Rothamsted Research said: “Both sessions could provide details on enhanced resource efficiency, financial savings and reduced environmental impacts for the agricultural sector."

The event takes place on Thursday November 14.
