Small scale turbine specialist SIAC Wind Energy is inviting farmers to visit www.siacwindenergy.com to use a bespoke calculator tool to assess their wind energy potential.

The wind calculator enables the user to determine their opportunities to utilise wind energy for a specified property by simply entering their postcode.

By choosing from a limited number of options, such as model specification information and expected energy consumption, the wind calculator evaluates small wind opportunities available for the site, detailing estimated annual yield and annual revenue.

As the second most exposed area of the UK, the South West experiences significantly higher mean wind speeds than many other areas of the country.

Mean wind speeds tend to be lower to the North-East of the region and in inland areas. For example Yeovilton, lowland Somerset, has a mean wind speed that is two thirds that of St. Mawgan in coastal Cornwall.

Patrick Dormon, managing director of SIAC Wind Energy, said: “While calculated results are not an absolute, they provide a good indication of projected wind energy potential.”
