Penryn 8pts - Launceston 31pts

PENRYN offered a strong challenge to Launceston, last season's Worthington Cornwall Cup runners-up, who won through to the next round after a keenly contested game at the Memorial Ground.

Launceston, who rested some of theirleading players, did not find victory easy to come by and found the Borough more than willing to take them on for the full 80 minutes of play.

Launceston took the lead with a try by lock Julian Wilce who scored from a line out and this was converted by wing Tom Birley.

Penryn, well served by the pack in which Justin Doney and skipper Kevin Hughes showed up well, took play to the Launceston area and when the visitors were penalised fly half Richard Hambly kicked the penalty goal awarded for offside.

Former Wadebridge Camels wing Tom O'Donnell took play into the Penryn area where skipper for the day Mark Fatialofa ran strongly to score a splendid try which Birley converted.

Five minutes later, Launceston, now running the ball well, scored a richly deserved third try by flanker Adam Boundy which was also converted by Birley.

Penryn wing Chris Mann ran strongly to threaten the try-line, but he was halted only by a last ditch tackle. Early in the second half scrum half Lee Greatrix dived over for a well taken try for Launceston.

Penryn hit back strongly and following strong pressure by the backs, flanker Justin Doney scored Penryn's only try and mid way through the second half full back Ian Worsnip crossed for Launceston's fifth try to complete the scoring.

Penryn, however, although beaten were by no means disgraced against their strong opponents.
