CAMBORNE 0pts Truro 34 pts

CAMBORNE'S hopes of winning a place in the semi-finals of the Skinner's Brewery Cornwall Knockout Cup Competition came to an abrupt end at the Recreation Ground when they went down 34-0 to fellow South West League Two rivals Truro, writes Paul Bawden.

Truro, relying on their tried and trusted game plan, progressed into the last four with a convincing victory on a bitterly cold afternoon.

For the City visitors, Grant Nicholls one of five former Camborne forwards in the pack, enjoyed a good afternoon in the line outs, often spoiling the home throw in.

Flanker David Nicholas was deservedly the "man of the match" for the home side.

Truro skipper Kevin Thomas, an Ex Red, kept the "Cherry & Whites" on the backfoot for long periods with his probing kicking for position.

The visitors took the lead in the seventh minute when a catch and drive went fully 25 metres from a line out and brought a try for Cullam Osborne.

Scrum half Mark Richards, who had an off day with his goal kicking, could not convert.

Good play by scrum-half Mark Fidock took Camborne to the Truro line, but they were unable to put points on the board.

The city club doubled their lead in the 28th minute when some slick passing ended with a try in the scoreboard corner, full-back Ian Hambly touching down.

Minutes later Truro centre Simon Enoch showed a touch of class to ghost over near the uprights with Richards converting for a 17 point lead.

As half time neared Osborne was driven over for his second try to put the game virtually beyond Camborne's reach with a 22-0 half-time lead.

Much of the play in an evenly contested second period was scrappy and disjointed.

The home side, who played with plenty of spirit throughout, scrapped for everything with number 8 Sean Oates always in the action and keeping Truro at bay untill the closing stages of the match.

Five minutes from time Josh Lord profited from a period of pressure to storm over for a try which again was not converted,.

On the final whistle flanker James Jago squeezed over near the posts for the which Richards converted.
