St Just 0pts Truro 32pts

South West One side Truro, visiting Tregeseal Valley in the west of the county for their Cornwall Skinner's Brewery Knock-out Cup first round match against Western Counties side St Just, were emphatic 32 points to nil winners.

Making a cracking start against the host club, Truro scored four of their six tries in the first half as they built a 22 point lead.

St Just had a good spell in the second half, but could really make any sustained impression for any length of time.

Injuries to James Curgenven, Tim Gay and Dave Moyle blunted the edge of the city club's play.

James Curgenven, a real live wire, scored the first Truro try, and others followed from good team approach play which must have pleased player/coach Steve Larkins who is recovering from injury.

Wing prospect, the speedy Luke Trescothick, with the other young winger, Mark Lea, were again on the try scorers list.

Open side flanker Ed Lawrence, was never far from the ball.

Former Pirates players, now in the St Just stable, all worked hard and on three occasions were just short of the try-line as Truro's defence remained sound throughout.

Truro's Lloyd Thomas, a recent signing, played keenly at outside centre and snapped up a second half try which was followed by a try for replacement Richard Bennett.

The only conversion was in the first half with Curgenven kicking the extra points.

Scorers - Truro - tries: Curgenven, Trescothick, Lawrence, Lea, Thomas and Bennett; con: Curgenven.

Truro face another long trip on Saturday when they visit Cinderford in a South West League One fixture.

l Also in the Skinner's Brewery Cup, Penryn, were away winners at St Austell's Tregorrick Park by a 55-7 score.

The shock result was at Wadebridge where the Camels defeated St Ives 10-8 after extra time.
