WADEBRIDGE CAMELS 5pts

TRURO 16pts

IN a season that has been an uphill struggle all the way, Truro put their problems behind them on Saturday to win a difficult match away to Wadebridge Camels in the Skinner's Brewery Cornwall Knockout Cup.

Success in this competition has not come easy for the city club, but following on from their win over Penryn in the final two seasons ago, Truro are now though to another semi-final.

It wasn't easy or pretty against a side that are three leagues below them, but they showed determination and character to negotiate what was a real banana skin.

It was the home side that laid down the gauntlet when they took the lead with a try from winger Bryn Phillips after some good driving play by the forwards and a break by fly-half Tom O'Donnell.

Truro didn't allow the home side to build on their early success and got back on level terms after 30 minutes when scrum-half Rikki Brandham went over following a quick tap penalty move.

Truro edged in front before half-time when Brandham again showed good pace and broke free before linking up with lock Nick Yelland who set up flanker Eddie Lawrence to go over in the corner.

With the wind behind them for the second half Truro were expected to dominate, but the Camels showed plenty of spirit and threatened the visitors line on several occasions.

To their credit the Truro defence remained solid and midway through the half they ensured there would be no upsets when full-back James Curgenven kicked two penalties.

Truro will now meet either Penryn or Bude in the semi-finals on Easter Monday.

Scorers - Wadebridge try: Phillips.
