WHILST the county's bigger clubs will be kicking off their league campaigns on Saturday, some of the county's junior clubs will be embarking on the national cup trail.

The preliminary round for the Powergen Junior Vase kicks off this Saturday with one of the hardest games to predict without any form guide is the clash between Helston and St Day at the King George V Playing Field, Helston.

The last time these two Cornwall clubs met in the Junior Vase was in September 1995 when the visitors that day, Helston, humbled their hosts 45-5. That season Helston were en route to Twickenham where after a memorable run of results they met Medicals but unfortunately lost 6-16.

Stithians are home to St Agnes and this is the clubs' first meeting in a national cup competition.

However, they will all there is to know about one another because they are rivals in this season's Cornwall II league.

Stithians have lost their last four Junior Vase ties, whilst St Agnes have won just one tie since they had a great Junior Vase run in 2001/02, which saw them into that year's sixth round.

So either way, whichever club triumphs it will provide an opportunity to go a little further than they have for some time.
