SIDMOUTH 32pts FALMOUTH 13pts

FALMOUTH were knocked out of the Powergen National Vase last Saturday after losing 32-13 away to Sidmouth in front of an impressive crowd.

Sidmouth looked the stronger of the sides from the outset, but Falmouth defended flawlessly for the first quarter of an hour, repeatedly pushing the home side back.

The hosts were passing and moving confidently, but squandered several opportunities through poor handling.

Jason Williams finally touched down in the corner for a try after 16 minutes to the delight of the home crowd and a superbly accurate conversion by Nick Gingell gave Sidmouth a 7-0 lead.

Falmouth played well throughout the first half, moving the ball forward efficiently, and their hopes were lifted briefly as Steve Larkins kicked two good penalties in the 20th and 25th minutes to bring the visitors within a point of the hosts.

But Sidmouth dominated the rest of the first half, with Gingell kicking a penalty after 28 minutes and Frank Helmer claiming a try after 31 minutes when great momentum from the Sidmouth forwards drove Falmouth over their own line to give the hosts a 15-6 advantage at half time.
