REDRUTH 43pts Truro 14pts

SKINNER'S Brewery Cornwall Cup holders Redruth cantered to 43 point to 14 victory over a youthful Truro side at the Recreation Ground to claim, as most would have expected, a place in the last four of the competition.

Conditions were on the dark side, but it was dry, with a cold wind and a total of nine tries helped warm the crowd.

The Reds coaching staff did not call on a number of regular league first teamers, but like Truro the home side fielded a good mixture of youth and experience.

Jon Navin led the side with big games coming from the Thirlby brothers and Mark Richards behind the scrum with locks Cook and Corin, along with hooker Harrison, Neil Douch, and Goodwin in the pack.

Stalwart, Ray Peters, was in good form and the news of a visit to Twickenham as a guest to enjoy a home International brought a big smile to his face along with his friends in the bar.

As early as the fourth minute there was a score with Truro taking the lead with a try by centre Owen Hambly which Scott Martin converted.

Just minutes later the home side had responded with tries by winger Tom McBride and Lewis Vinnicombe, but both conversions were off target.

Midway through the half a third try was scored by the industrious forward Neil Corin who was to play splendidly throughout. This was converted by Paul Thirlby.

Right on half time Vinnicombe showed a clean pair of heels to the Truro cover after good passing had set up his second try which must have caught the eye of county secretary Alan Mitchell,
