Camborne 17pts Launceston 27pts

CAMBORNE went out of the Cornwall Cup at the hands of National League opponents Launceston, but certainly gave their all in a pulsating performance.

A good sized crowd packed the Recreation Ground hoping for a cup upset which was not to be in a stop-start match.

In a late change Nigel Endean came in at loose head prop for "Town" and certainly did not let the side down.

As early as the third minute the Cherry and Whites went ahead with skipper Ian Morgan kicking a monster 50 metre penalty goal. Soon after the fly-half doubled the lead with another superb kick, this time from the touchline.

Launceston hit back with a well- worked try for wing Martin Lacey converted by fly-half Rhys Gosling to make the score 6-7.

The home back row of Martin Woolcock, Kevin Penrose and Ali Durrant were catching the eye with tireless Brian Andrew also making a big contribution. Morgan restored his side's lead with a third huge penalty, but this was cancelled out by a Gosling effort from near the posts.

With Andrew in the "sin bin" for a technical offence, the Cornish "All Blacks" capitalised with a 36th minute pushover try for lock Dave Kimberley.

Camborne would not lie down and hit back immediately with another Morgan penalty to make the score 12-15.

On the half time whistle Lacey out-flanked the home defence to cross wide out.Gosling's conversion came back off a post and the interval arrived with visitors 12-20 up.
