LISTED building consent to change a window to French doors and construction of mezzanine terrace, constructed of steel frame, composite deck boards and glass balustrade to the rear of a Richmond property have been submitted to North Yorkshire Council.
The existing building, in Maison Dieu, Richmond, is a stone built dwelling with the later addition of a platform and steps for access leading to the back door.
The topography of the site requires access to be created using steps to allow access to the garden to the rear.

The rear elevation is modest with a combination of original and later openings, reflecting previous changes and modifications over time.
The proposed French window and decked area has been designed to take advantage of the existing lintel and extends the access across the rear of the property using a decked area on columns set away from the rear elevation.
This structure is removable, and lightweight in character extending the existing access and features a glazed balustrade to unify the existing and new elements.
The creation of the French window will result in the loss of some historic fabric, although this does not extend further than the existing lintel.
