I write in counter-response to 'Anonymous', who clearly does not want to have his/her name mentioned for obvious reasons in respect of their 'Shut Up & Slow Down' reply to my original letter regarding tractors & their general reluctance to pull over in order to allow fellow road users to pass.

There are an awful lot of assumptions within that letter, the first being that I continually drive on minor roads, which is in fact completely incorrect. A great deal of my driving is done on A roads, yes, we do have some of those in Dorset, & I reserve the right to drive at the road legal speed limit of 60mph, where I do in fact encounter quite a number of tractors. I have no qualms whatsoever with tractors using these roads, but what I do object to is how they use them!

Another incorrect statement is that I would be better suited to city life where I am 'likely to get held up by dozens of my own kind', not quite sure what that is supposed to mean! I am not trying to change the country pace to that of the city, but what I do like to do is get from A to B in a reasonable time.

I have worked on several farms & do in fact currently work for a Farmer & actually find the smell of silage & muck wholesome & not in the least bit offensive. As for thinking that I have the 'right & the money' to live in the countryside, neither of those assumptions are true. I do not regard living in Dorset as a 'right', it is somewhere I love living & have great respect for.

Anyway, must leave it at that for now, just heading off to the local agri' dealer to pick up my new John Deere, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'!
