AN “amazing cavalcade of ancient tractors” is promised on New Year’s Day for the annual charity Tractor Run starting from Poldark Mine.

Organised annually by Mr and Mrs Bobby Eustis, last New Year’s Day they raised almost a thousand pounds for the children’s hospice.

A cavalcade of 80 vintage and some huge modern tractors are expected to turn out in support of the Children’s Hospice Little Harbour.

This year’s run starts at 10.30am on Monday, January 1, 2024 heading to Stithians and Penmarth (Carmenellis) and then returning. Refreshments are provided at Penmarth Free Church Hall by Mrs Janette Eathorne the retired BBC Radio presenter with help from Darren & Maureen Neale. The hall is opposite Penmarth Free Church where Sunday services are held at 3pm.

The run starts off at the neighbouring car park just by Poldark Tin Mine & The Cornish National Heritage Collection. The visitor’s car park will be open from 9:30 am on the day. Tractors gather from 10am and the start is at 10:30am.

“If you have a tractor do bring it along,” say the organisers. “Trailers and low loaders may be parked in our main car park free of charge.

“Please come along and support this worthy cause and see the amazing cavalcade of ancient tractors and meet many of the wonderful farmers of West Cornwall and further afield who come every year with an amazing variety of vintage and some modern giants for this friendly meeting. “Make sure you bring all that loose change and a few notes too if you are able to spare a donation to fill the buckets.”

The location is well signposted for Poldark Mine despite its continuing temporary closure although it hopes to reopen this spring.
