THE Ilminster Young Farmers Club (YFC) had a cheque presentation evening at the Shrubbery Hotel and donated £4,000 to two charities.

The event took place on Wednesday, October 11, and they had speakers from the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Motor Neurone Disease Association who spoke about the work their charities do, and how they will use the donations.

Ilminster YFC gave £2,000 to each charity, they raised the money over the last year by hosting a number of fundraisers including a party, Christmas tree collections, a tractor run, and a cream tea.

Hearing the speakers motivated them to try and better their fundraising in the next year.

Ilminster YFC meets weekly, participating in a range of activities around the Ilminster area, such as sports, public speaking, trips and visits, guest speakers, and livestock competitions.

You don't have to be a farmer to be a young farmer; Ilminster YFC is always happy to welcome anyone between 13-28 with an interest in the countryside, meeting new people, and learning new skills.
