NATIONAL Highways says the M5 northbound between Tiverton has reoepened.

A spokesperson said: "The M5 northbound between J27 Tiverton and J26 Wellington is now open following an overturned car and trailer.

"One lane remains closed past the scene. Please take care on approach."

 

IN an update to the incident on the M5 between Tiverton and Wellington, a National Highways spokesperson said: "The M5 in Devon is closed northbound between J27 (Tiverton) and J26 (Wellington) due to a collision which has resulted in a car towing a trailer overturning.

"The trailer was transporting livestock. The animals are in the process of being transferred to another trailer.

"Devon and Cornwall Police are on scene.

"National Highways have resources in attendance to assist with traffic management."

DIVERSION ROUTE.

Road users are advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol on road signs:

  • Leave the M5 at J27 and take the 3rd exit onto the A38, towards Wellington;
  • Remain on the A38 for approximately 9 miles to the Chelston Roundabout, with the B3187;
  • At the Chelston Roundabout take the 4th exit, towards the M5;
  • Rejoin the M5 northbound at J26.

The spokesperson added: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

 

A SECTION of the M5 is currently closed this morning (Saturday, September 30) due to a collision, according to National Highways South West.

The organisation has posted advice warning that the motorway is closed northbound between Tiverton (Junction 27) and Wellington (Junction 26).

It follows a collision between an overturned car and trailer towing livestock.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The M5 is closed northbound between J27 Tiverton & J26 Wellington due to a collision involving an overturned car and trailer, towing livestock.

"National Highways resources are in attendance assisting emergency services.

"Please plan ahead this morning Somerset and Devon."

Latest reports say the incident happened at around 5am and that the animals "are being contained.

The incideint is "affecting traffic between Exeter and Taunton".

National Highways says the event is expected to clear and conditions return to normal between 7am and 7.15am.
