FIRE crews raced to the scene of a major farm blaze.

Firefighters from Beaminster, Maiden Newton and Yeovil fire stations were called to a farm building ablaze in Halstock on Friday night.

A spokesperson for Maiden Newton Fire Station said:"We had a property fire in the Halstock area.

"We were joined by two pumps and a water carrier from Yeovil Fire Station along with another pump from Beaminster.

"Thankfully, everyone is safe and well. There were over a hundred calves in close proximity and these are also safe and well."

The station also made an appeal for more fighters to join their team following the blaze.

The spokesperson said: "If you think that you might be interested in a very rewarding part-time job and you live within five or six minutes of Maiden Newton, then please come and speak to us as we are in need of more firefighters.
