A strong demand for Red Ruby Devon bulls at Sedgemoor last Tuesday (March 28) March resulted in a full clearance and a top price of 6200gns - meaning an average of more than £4300 for males.

Sale leader at 6200gns was the first place Champson Magnificence from Messrs G Dart and Son, South Molton, Devon. By Colleton Thorven and out of Champson Tulip 119th, a Knowstone Fitzroy 4th daughter, this one met a frenzied bidding with the hammer dropping for A J Jones and Son, Raglan, Gwent.

Next best at 4800gns was the reserve champion Rocknell Jasper from G J Summerhayes, Tiverton, Devon. By the 2022 stock bull of the year, Knowstone Snowboy EX90, this one is out of the Challenge Brigadier 3rd EX90 daughter, Rocknell Lassie 3rd VG86. Taking this one home was A Syed and H North, Ilminster, Somerset.

Two bulls then shared a 4200gns price tag, the first being Champson Majestic again from the Dart family. By Colleton Thorven and this time out of Champson Clara 137th, this one was knocked down to R M Gray, Stafford.

The next at this money was Tilbrook Endurance from Gavin Hunter, Huntingdon, Cambs. Homebred on both sides, this one is by Tilbrook Endeavour EX93 and out of Tilbrook Tube 15th, a Tilbrook Knockover daughter. Taking this one back to Honiton, Devon, was the Coombe Estate.

Having been tapped out as the pre-sale champion under judge Michael Yeandle, Dorset, Priorton Whisky from John May, Crediton, Devon, then took a 4000gns price tag.

By the successful show bull Dira Halcyon and out of Foxdown Dairymaid 2nd, this one was praised by the judge for being the most correct bull on the day. Securing him was Nick Pardoe, Bridgwater, Somerset.

At the same money was the second placed Rocknell Freddie from G J Summerhayes. By Knowstone Snowboy EX90, this one is out of the Efford Down Freddie daughter, Rocknell Foxglove 1st EX92. This one was knocked down to T G and A Durston, Glastonbury, Somerset.

Females met a more selective trade on the day with a top call of 1600gns for Cutcombe Lucky 24th from Mrs M Elliot, Dulverton, Somerset. By Pussey Farms Otto and out of a Champson Jasper daughter, this one found a new home with M H and B M Janes, Raglan, Gwent.

Then at 1300gns was Mere Park Jubiliee 3rd from Mr and Mrs L Armishaw, Warminster, Wiltshire. This one is a Rocknell Quarrylad daughter out of the Knoll Obama daughter, Mere Park Posie. Clinching this one was J J and E A Carden, Honiton, Devon.
