Developers want to build seven homes on a farm near Gloucester.

FirMack Homes Ltd wants permission from Tewkesbury Borough Council to build at Walnut Farm in Norton, writes Local Democracy Reporter Carmelo Garcia.

The proposals are for four market homes and three affordable houses and include a mixture of two bed, four-bed and five bed-properties.

Plans for the site had previously been approved for seven one and two-storey homes in a fairly traditional style.

However, the latest proposals include re-configuring the homes to make them more akin to the properties to the north.

The proposed homes would be three five-bed properties, two four-bed houses and a couple of two-beds.

Rather than the previous linear development, the new approach is to arrange the properties around a courtyard space to make it more like a traditional complex of barns, consultants working on the scheme say.

“The proposed development will provide much needed housing that would help meet the objectively assessed need for housing in the Borough.

“This is of particular importance since the council cannot currently demonstrate a five-year supply of deliverable housing sites.

“The provision of housing should therefore be afforded substantial weight in the planning balance. The proposal promotes high standards of design that will complement the character and appearance of the surrounding area.

“It will have an acceptable impact on neighbouring development and there would be no harm to the setting of nearby designed heritage assets.”

The two-bed properties have been designed to have two carport spaces each and the two four-bed homes have one and two garage spaces respectively and two extra designated spaces each.

The five bed properties would have two garage spaces and two extra designated spaces. The site includes eight visitor parking spaces.

Residents have until December 19 to comment on the council’s online planning portal and borough planners are expected to consider the scheme by January 20.
