TWO properties have been recognised with awards from Ringwood Society.

The Design and Conservation Awards were presented at the society's autumn open meeting on October 18.

The award for a residential property went to Sheerin Bettle for its restoration of the chimneys on top of Clarks Alms Houses.

The commercial property award went to the recently opened Ground for its "sympathetic frontage, understated signage and classic design".

Lorraine Lloyd, from the Ringwood Society committee, said: “We had a large list of potential winners compiled over the last three years. The judging panel was keen to recognise those who had made a significant conservation contribution.

"The Alms Houses was clearly a deserving project. It would have been easy for them to just cap the at-risk chimneys rather than invest in a complex restoration. As a result, the chimneys will continue to be an important feature of Ringwood.”

“When it came to the commercial properties our award went to recently opened Ground coffee house for their sympathetic frontage, understated signage and classic design," added Lorraine.
