On Sunday March 9, Sparsholt College students will take on the professionals with their own stall at the Winchester Farmers' Market.

The students, all studying the National Diploma in Agriculture, will sell a range of beef, lamb and pork products which they have bred and reared at the Sparsholt College campus.

The students have organised the whole project, from approaching Hampshire Farmers' Markets for the pitch, to breeding and rearing the animals. They have also had to obtain basic food hygiene certificates and designed and produced all the marketing material for the event.

The project has been funded by the South of England Agricultural Society.

Caroline James, Head of Agriculture at Sparsholt College, said: This is the first time that such an initiative has taken place and will be a valuable experience for our students. We really appreciate the help and support from Hampshire Farmers' Markets to enable us to do it."

Toby Bowtell, former Sparsholt student and Director of Hampshire Farmers' Markets, said: "Much time, thought and energy has gone into preparing for this day, it's a great initiative that Hampshire Farmer's Markets are pleased to support with a view that these students are potential farmers and stallholders of the future."

The Winchester Farmers' Market runs from 9am - 2pm on Sunday March 9and is held in Middle Brook Street and Middle Brook Street Car Park.
