Texels and Charollais excelled in last week's NSA South West Ram Sale in Exeter.

Champion shearling ram Hornacott Exceptional lived up to his name, selling for 2,100gns and the Charollais trade topped at 1,200gns.

Phil and Lesley Martyn-Uglow’s Hornacott Exceptional took championship in the pre-sale show and topped the trade for the Launceston-based couple.

Sired by Beautry Achilles and out of a dam by Whiteheart Unleashed, this one headed home with the judge, Jack Neale of Boyton in Cornwall.

Second best of the day at 1,300gns was another from the same home, Hornacott Energetic. He’s another by Achilles and is out of a similarly bred dam by Unleashed. He found a new home with Charles Fuggle in Wadhurst, East Sussex.

Following him at 1,250gns was Housey Eye Catcher from Emma and Amy Coumbe of Liskeard. This one is a son of Millars Diante out of a dam buy Aman Wele and was taken by T Cole of South Molton.

Then at 1,150gns was the best of the sale from Salisbury-based Georgie Helyer, with Langford Early Bird. He’s by the homebred Langford Dennis the Menace and is out of a dam by Fordwell Youmzain. He was knocked down to previous buyer Charles Fuggle.

Also at this money was the best from the Wellington-based Chave family’s Peacehay consignment, Peacehay Ewe Genius. Sired by Clarks Wizard, he is out of a dam by Peacehay Untouchable and went home to Martins Farm in Dunkerswell.

At 1,050gns was Hornacott Eager from the Martyn-Uglows. This one is by Beautry Achilles and out of another Whitehart Unleashed daughter and sold to R J and S J Geake of Lamerton.

Finally at 1,000gns was Moortown Emmerdale from Robert and Rebecca Jordan of Chagford. He’s by Rusha Bon Jovi and out of a dam by Cambwell Wallabrook. He found a new home with James Eustice in Wadebridge.

Topping Charollais trade at 1,200gns were the Quick family of Crediton, with shearling ram Dafolog 21VFC00198 from their Loosebeare flock.

This shearling ram, bred by D J Thomas, is by Ffrwd Vunipola and out of a dam by Wernfawr Platinum and sold to R and M F Rottenburn of Taunton.

At 1,000gns was another shearling, this time from Gerald Burrough’s Sheldon flock in the form of Sheldon 21XNR01183. This Loosebeare Tornado son it out of a dam by Foulrice Roderick and was knocked down to G R and R J Ward of Winkleigh.

Then at 900gns was another from the Sheldon pen, Sheldon 21XNR01203. Sired by Foulrice Uzziah and out of a dam by Ddfrwd Samson, he caught the eye of M Geach of Padstow.

Close behind at 880gns was the next in the ring, Sheldon XNR2101184. He’s by Loosebeare Tornado and out of a dam by Foulrice Roderick. Buying him were D W and A E Enticott of Wellington.

Next in line was an 850gns call for another Sheldon shearling, but this time from the Quick family’s pen. This was XNR2101131, another by Loosebeare Tornado and this time out of a dam by Sheldon Rambo. He sold to A R Henson of Tiverton.

Making 800gns was another from the Quicks in the shape of Grug 21W01001. Bred by Geraint Evans, he is by Sant Andras Vanquish and out of a dam by Hollylodge Rebel. Buying this one were previous buyers R and M F Rottenburn.
