A piece of land in Cornwall featuring a disused quarry has sold for double its guide price.

The land at Trenance Downs, St Austell, measuring approximately 6.61-acres (2.67 hectares), sold for £65,000 when the hammer fell.

It was listed with a guide of £27,500 plus in the fourth auction of 2022 by land and property auctioneers Clive Emson.

Senior auction appraiser Dave Henwood said: “The semi-rural location of this land with far-reaching views of the Cornish countryside, road access and proximity to St Austell proved a strong draw for bidders.

“The field was most recently used for the grazing of horses but the new owner may have other uses in mind subject to the necessary consents.”

An adjoining field – measuring approximately 2.39 acres (0.96 hectares) – also sold well. It went for £55,000, against a freehold guide of £27,500 plus. It was sold as a separate lot to the land with the former quarry.
