A barn caught fire at a Cornish sawmill last night (Wednesday, May 18).

At 8.23pm fire control was called with reports of a fire at a sawmill in Cardinham near Bodmin.

Initially two appliances were sent from Bodmin.

Firefighters found a large barn burning fiercely and so additional crews from Lostwithiel and Liskeard were mobilised.

Since the barn sits about a mile east of Bodmin parkway on the A38, the fire service shared a warning to motorists, saying: "Please approach the area with caution as there may be smoke on the carriageway."

An hour later fire control reported that good progress was being made with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using main jets and a hose reel jet.
