A barn holding cattle and a diesel tank caught fire on Saturday night (May 14).

Fire crews from Malmesbury, Royal Wootton Bassett, Swindon and Stratton St Margaret were sent to the barn in Brinkworth at just before 8.30pm.

Having been told that there were beef cattle in the barn, the fire service also mobilised a specialist animal rescue unit.

Happily, on arrival, firefighters found that the cattle had already been removed from the barn.

They found a quantity of hay alight outside the barn which they extinguished but the diesel tank remained a concern.

They successfully isolated it, along with a quantity of cylinders also stored in the barn.

Less than an hour later, they had brought the fire under control.

A number of fire engines were then moved around to cover areas in the county, including Faringdon from Oxfordshire and Tetbury from Gloucester.
