A Yorkshire Goat farm has been ordered to pay £200,000 in fines and compensation after a farm worker was run over a fatally wounded.
The Yorkshire Dairy Goats company was fined for safety breaches that led to the August 2018 incident where Janet McDonald, 53, suffered catastrophic crush injuries after being struck by a reversing vehicle. Ms McDonald had worked on the goat farm since she was 16.
Yorkshire Dairy Goats of Seaton Ross, which produces milk, butter, cheese and yoghurts for UK supermarkets, pleaded guilty at Hull Crown Court to breaching Section 2 (1) of the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974. The company was fined £180,000 and ordered to pay £20,000 in costs.
Sentencing Judge John Thackray QC said the company 'had failed to put in place measures to segregate pedestrians and vehicles and meet basic standards that are recognised in industry'.
"Pedestrians and vehicles had never been segregated at the farm and so breaches had subsisted for over 30 years," added the judge.
