A FIRM that sells tractors wants to bring its business to a site outside Wellington.

Vincent Tractors Ltd hopes to get change of use permission to trade from three units at Poole Industrial Estate, Nynehead.

The family-run company would sell, maintain and repair agricultural vehicles, machinery and parts from Units 1-3.

The premises are currently vacant but were previously occupied by Viridor Waste Management for commercial storage.

Vincent Tractors has operated for more than 50 years and presently operates from sites in St Columb, in Cornwall, and Holsworthy and Plympton, in Devon.

A planning application to Somerset West and Taunton Council says: "The opening of an additional unit at Poole Industrial Estate will allow the expansion of the business into Somerset, with benefits for the local economy and for employment.

"It is envisaged that the new premises will serve an area ranging from Exeter to Clevedon, along the M5 corridor."

The statement adds: "Vincent Tractors has been searching for suitable premises in the area for some months, and has been unable to locate a property that offers both the large internal and external space that the business requires.

"Units 1 to 3 at Poole Industrial Estate have been identified as a site that will suit the unique needs of the business.

"The proposal is for the building to be used for the storage and display of agricultural vehicles, machinery and parts, together with a workshop, and office and staff facilities.

"It is not proposed to define specific areas within the units for these different uses, as the business requires flexibility and the ability to scale different activities up and down in response to market demand.

"The repair, servicing and maintenance of agricultural vehicles and machinery will only be carried on within the building."

A Vincent Tractor spokesperson said the workshop would not generate "significant noise or disturbance" and the business would employ six people.

There would be six staff parking spaces and three for customers and one for HGV deliveries.
