Fast work from firefighters stopped a barn fire in the South Hams from escalating on Thursday evening (March 24).

The fire service was called at just before 6pm with reports of a barn on fire in Stoke Fleming.

Crews from Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Totnes were mobilised.

On arrival, they found a small barn storing straw and hay on fire.

Working quickly with hose reel jets, they managed to save the barn.

Once the fire was out the barn was assessed as having been 25 per cent damaged in the fire.
