A tractor helped fire crews rescue a horse weighing more than 800kg trapped in a river in Cornwall yesterday morning (March 10)
Billy, a large 20-year-old horse, had slipped down a bank off Minorca Lane in Bugle and become stuck in the river.
Surrounded by deep mud and water, stressed and exhausted, he needed specialist teams and a tractor to get out.
At just before 10.30am firefighters from Bodmin and St Austell were called to Billy's aid.
They used saws and small tools to clear a way to him and then used strops and lines, together with specialist large animal rescue equipment to get him out of the river.
Billy was then recovered from the river bank by the horse owner's tractor.
