A deer-ing crew of firefighters was tasked with helping a deer that had become trapped in a gate in Verwood this week.

On Tuesday morning (January 18) a team from the local fire station was called to Verwood Care Home on Ringwood Road to reports of the deer stuck in a gate.

South West Farmer:

A vet joined them at the scene to help the animal which was being cared for by Moyles Court Animal Rescue, a wildlife rescue charity.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to spread the bars and release the deer.

South West Farmer:

They tried to release the deer into the neighbouring Bugdens Meadows Nature Reserve but their attempts were not successful so the deer was taken back to the wildlife rescue centre for rest and rehabilitation.

Verwood Fire Station posted the photos shared here on Facebook and received many sweet comments, including one on behalf of the care home whose gate posed such a problem to the deer.
