POLICE are appealing to the public after a sheep has been attacked by a dog in Dorset.

The attack happened in Eype, near Bridport, which police said is a criminal offence in the form of sheep worrying under the Protection of Livestock Act 1953.

Sheep worrying is when a dog worries livestock on any agricultural land, which leads to the dog chasing, attacking or injuring livestock.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said: "Unfortunately, there has been another sheep attack in the area of Eype.

"Livestock worrying attacks are crimes.

"Please remember your responsibilities when walking dogs to keep them under control at all times.

"Best practice would be to keep them on a lead until you know a field is completely clear of animals.

"Never assume that if your dog has not chased or attacked, that it won't."
