Seven starter farms in Devon are available to let - but there's only a fortnight left in which to apply.

Devon County Council has seven starter farms which it is making available to new entrants.

The properties, which range from 55 acres to 216 acres, have seven-year farm business tenancies and are a mix of dairy and livestock units.

Interested parties have until November 26 to submit an application, and the council will then shortlist successful applicants for interview.

Property company Fisher German is urging those wanting to take advantage of the opportunity to seek expert advice ahead of the deadline.

Harriet Helliar, of Fisher German, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for new entrant farmers to take on a farm in Devon.

“Farms are often passed down through generations of the same family, so it is fantastic to see that the council is supporting those new to the industry through this scheme.

“Seven years is a very good tenancy length and will give those successful a chance to really develop their business.

“Although the deadline is fast approaching, there is still time to apply, and we would advise any interested parties to seek expert advice to make the most of their application.

“A comprehensive business plan as well as two-year cash flows and budgets must be submitted as part of the application.

“For those shortlisted, experts will also be able to conduct mock interviews to put them in the best position possible. We would urge anyone in need of support to get in touch.”
