A village in Somerset is closed this morning (Wednesday, October 27) as five fire crews battle a large barn fire.

The barn is burning in Aller near Langport, and the village has been closed while firefighters tackle the fire.

At 2.47am crews from Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Street, Martock and Somerton were mobilised.

They found the barn well alight and so dampened down the surrounding area to prevent the fire escalating.

The A372 Langport - Aller road is currently closed with a diversion in place.

A spokesperson for the fire service said that it will remain closed for some "considerable" time.

Drivers are advised to find an alternative route.

At 8am two pumps were still on scene with crews monitoring for hot spots.

Update at 10.59:

The fire service has reported that this incident has ended.

All appliances have left the scene, allowing the remainder to burn and the incident has been handed back to the owner.

The A372 is now open once more.
