A Cornish company is celebrating a cracking year after poaching yet another award.

St Ewe Free Range Eggs is egg-static after winning a Gold Star at this year’s Great Taste Awards.

Announced on 21 September, the Cornish free-range egg producer and packer was awarded the accolade of '1 Gold Star' for its Rich Yolk eggs.

Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, The Great Taste Awards act as an acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink, with each star recognising that the product is delicious and delivers fantastic flavour.

Just 25 per cent of all entries achieve a star rating each year.

Nikki Owen, head of marketing at St Ewe Free Range Eggs, said: "It’s no secret that keeping our hens happy and healthy makes for highly nutritious eggs, which is a key value that sits right at the heart of St Ewe, so we couldn’t be more thrilled to have the quality and nutrition of our Rich Yolk eggs recognised with this award.

"It means a lot to the whole team; our feed producer Humphrey Feeds and Pullets, our hard working producer farms and of course, the hens!

"To be awarded a Great Taste Gold Star is a real accolade, and it’s truly wonderful to have recognition from the world's largest and most trusted food and drink awards."

Based near Truro, St Ewe is a family-led business that first started farming over 40 years ago.

With a passion for the welfare of its hens and a mindful attitude towards its impact on the environment, the business says it is invested in good food and healthy nutrition, demonstrated by other previous award wins including two Taste of the West Awards and a National Rural Business Award.

Miss Owen continued: "We’re very proud of what we do here.

"We look after our hens in the best way possible, from their specially developed feeds to their generous and roomy housing.

"Every single St Ewe egg comes from free-ranging hens who have plenty of space to roam, outside in clean, fresh air.

"We’re always looking for ways to improve, in all areas of what we do.

"The living and ranging conditions of our hens are continually being enhanced with new housing and flock monitoring systems which provide us with important information about their health and productivity.

"Their feed is constantly monitored too, with our dedicated UK-based feed supplier, Humphrey Feeds and Pullets, and our in-house Food Scientist working to give our hens the very best nutrition."
