Working with the farmer, firefighters from Torquay, Danes Castle and Crediton moved the hay from the barn and extinguished the bales that were on fire.
They used hose reel jets, a compressed air foam branch, a thermal imaging camera, a triple extension ladder and the farmer's telehandler.
Two hours later, they had succeeded in putting the fire out.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
