A large barn holding around 100 tonnes of hay caught fire on a farm in Ilchester on Monday night (August 30).
The fire service was called at 10.28pm and sent multiple crews of firefighters from Yeovil, Martock, Wincanton and Sherborne.
They arrived to find a five bay barn, 25m x 15m, packed with around 100 tonnes of hay consumed with flames.
Of some concern was the fertiliser and machinery also stored in the barn.
Crews removed the fertiliser and machines then tackled the fire with 45mm jets and a compressed air foam jet.
Less than two hours later the incident was scaled down to just one fire engine and the crew carrying out a watching brief as they allowed the remaining hay to burn under supervision in a controlled way.
