A barn with 500 hay bales caught fire yesterday and burned through the night on a farm near Burnham-on-Sea.
At 2.55pm on Wednesday, August 18 the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service posted on social media to say that crews are battling a large fire with 500 hay bales in Brean.
The service has advised the public to avoid Uphill beach because of the smoke plume.
Residents are being asked to keep their doors and windows closed.
At 4.13pm the fire service confirmed that 12 fire appliances are at the scene.
A spokesperson said: "We're still at the scene with 12 fire appliances from across Devon and Somerset and @AvonFireRescue.
"Other emergency services also at the incident.
"Firefighters using several water jets to extinguish the fire.
"The advice remains to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed."
On Thursday morning the fire service shared an update on social media. They wrote: "We have been at the scene throughout the night and currently have three appliances there keeping a watching brief in case any hotspots flare up."
