Fire crews were faced with a particularly challenging - and smelly - job on Sunday (July 25) when five cows became stuck in a slurry pit.

At just before 6pm they were called to Holly Bush in Horningsham, near Warminster.

Large animal rescue specialist crews from Bath, Bedminster and Warminster worked together in the fetid mission.

They used inflatable walkways, animal rescue kit and mechanical farm vehicles to successfully rescue all of the cows from the stinking pit.

A spokesperson said: "A rather smelly job for all firefighters, cows and farmers involved.

"Thankfully teamwork ensured a successful rescue of all five cows."
