When firefighters from Holsworthy, Hatherleigh and Barnstaple arrived they found the barn well alight.

They requested extra crews and water and Cornwall Fire Service sent a fire engine from Bude and another from Launceston.
Once Western Power was able to isolate the electrics to the property, crews were able to help move the cattle away from the burning barn to a safe place.
After three hours of firefighting, relief crews were sent from Okehampton and Bideford, and steady progress continued to be made by the relief crews.
