A serial burglar was caught whilst raiding a farm park after CCTV footage captured him stopping to feed - a llama, writes Ollie Buckley.

James Fisher, 30, was halted on his £6,000 crime spree because he stopped to feed the animal called Larry.

Fisher was spotted on CCTV images standing next to Larry's pen - and with most of his face on show.

He was then spotted by an officer analysis the CCTV and eventually jailed.

Gareth Williams, owner of Raglan Farm Park in Monmouthshire said: “We went out in the morning and saw someone had been around.

“We then rang the police - only 100 pounds or so was taken but I think there were half a dozen places they went to.

“On our camera there were pictures of him everywhere, but it was fairly dark.

“Then he went up to feed the llama and it was well lit – so it’s a good job he fed him!

“Larry is famous now.”

Gwynne Williams, who works at the park said: “Amazingly our llama was key in helping the police to capture a criminal whose face was clearly seen on our CCTV as he stopped in the 'wee small hours' to feed Larry by his enclosure whilst raiding the park.

“Larry seems quite relaxed about it all, and his newfound fame!

“We're delighted to say that the criminal now has his very own enclosure too and is currently doing two years!”

Cardiff Crown Court heard a police community support officer recognised Fisher from the CCTV images next to Larry's pen in the llama enclosure.

He was arrested when officers pulled him over on a slip road and found bolt cutters in the van forensically linking him to the crimes.

The court heard Fisher and an unidentified accomplice targeted six properties in the Usk area and Mathern, near Chepstow.

Their stolen haul included a quad bike, chainsaws and hedge trimmers along with other times totalling over £6,000.

The offences took place between February 19 and February 27, 2020.

Fisher was jailed for two years and ordered to pay a £190 victim surcharge.
