A cow became trapped in a river with rope around its neck just the day after the same had happened to another cow.

Last night (April 15) at 6.37pm fire crews were alerted to a cow stuck in a river with a rope around its neck in Huish Drove in Langport.

A crew from Somerton and the specialist animal rescue unit from Bridgwater managed to release the cow using strops, specialist equipment and mechanical assistance from the farmer.

Only the day before, three crews were in the same predicament, in the same location at Huish Drove, when another cow had become stuck in the river - also with a rope around its neck.

Two crews from Taunton and Martock, together with the specialist animal rescue team from Bridgwater, were called to help the stuck cow.

The farmer and firefighters rescued the cow using strops and animal rescue equipment.
