A flurry of 999 calls led to the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat being launched to help a capsized kayaker.

People on Gyllyngvase Beach this afternoon became concerned after spotting the kayaker whose boat was full of water and he could not right it.

The inshore lifeboat was launched just before 2pm and went to the aid of the kayaker who was reported to be a quarter of a mile off the shore.

They arrived and found the kayker in the water with his vessel full of water. He was picked up and the boat recovered and taken to Gyllyngvase Beach.

Despite the fact he had capsized he was found to be wearing all the correct gear and had his mobile phone with him. He had been hanging on in the hope that he would just drift back to shore.

A spokesperson from the RNLI told the Packet: "The inshore lifeboat was launched to a capsized kayak a quarter of a mile of Gyllyngvase Beach following several 999 calls from members of the public.

"They found the kayaker by his kayak in the water which was full of water. He was recovered and taken back to Gyllyngvase Beach. He had all the correct gear and didn't need any assistance and had his mobile phone. He was hoping he would drift back to shore."
