A MAJOR barn fire last night needed 12 fire fighting vehicles from all over the county to bring it under control.

Critical Control received reports starting at 22:50 of a fire in a barn at Trekenning, St Columb Major. The barn, measuring around 30 metres x 50 metres was said to be well alight.

Due to the nature of the call, four appliances were mobilised straight away from St Columb, St Dennis, Newquay and Padstow. In addition to this, two officers were also mobilised.

The initial crews then asked for further assistance and in total, the incident involved ten major appliances, one aerial ladder platform and two water carriers along with four officers.

The fire ground was what's known as sectorised with main and foam jets in use to tackle the flames.

By around 5am the incident was in the process of been scaled down to four major pumping appliances. Relief crews from Falmouth, Tolvaddon, Fowey, and Helston were called to take over.
