PLANS for 34 "affordable" homes have been submitted to Dorset Council.

Sovereign Housing Association and Coda Homes have submitted an application to build an entry level exception site for the provision of 34 affordable houses on land behind Hillbury Road, Alderholt.

If approved, the houses will have associated access, 74 parking spaces and landscaping together with alterations to 17 Hillbury Road. The land is currently used for grazing.

Of the 34 homes proposed, 22 will be two-bedroom houses and 12 will be three-bedroom.

A planning, design and access statement written on behalf of Sovereign Housing and Coda Homes said the proposal presents a sustainable form of development and would help “address a considerable shortfall in meeting affordable housing needs in this part of Dorset”.

The statement said: “The application seeks full planning permission to develop the site as an entry-level exception site comprising 34 terraced and semi detached units.

“The provision of entry-level homes is in direct response to an identified need in the former district of East Dorset for this type of property. The proposed mix therefore reflects the needs of entry-level occupants, with the plans showing a choice of 2-3 bed dwellings with modest private gardens.”

The document added: “The proposed development for 21 x 2-bed units and 12 x 3-bed units therefore helps provide a much-needed boost to housing supply (the Council is currently unable to demonstrate a five-year supply) and meet identified needs.

The proposed access to the site would be via the existing vehicular accessed used by 17 Hillbury Road. The public right of way along the northern edge of the site would be unaffected.
