That week in 2001 was all about cup competition for Taunton and Wellington, meanwhile.

Taunton defeated Ivel Barbarians 12-6 to reach the quarter-finals of the Somerset Blackthorn Cup.

Ivel - the result of a merger between clubs from Westland and Yeovil - were on the back foot for most of the match, but their defence frustrated Taunton.

Rob Weaver and Andy Jones’ tries were all the visitors had to show for their dominance, yet the 12 points gained were still enough to see them through.

Wellington were the underdogs against Clevedon, but gave it a good go before losing out 38-17.

Terry Jones and Lee Atkinson crossed for Wellington in the first half, ensuring that their team only trailed 20-17 at half-time.

Clevedon’s class told in the end, as they pulled away in the second half.
