A MAN was arrested after travelling to Dorset from North London during lockdown.

Dorset Police pulled over a man behind the wheel of a silver Volkswagen Golf around 8pm on Saturday while he was travelling on the A31.

The car was originally pulled over after officers suspected the driver had not taxed the car, while driving on the major Dorset route.

Police said the driver had taxed the silver Golf the day before, but had travelled to the area from Hemel Hempstead.

According to police the driver denied any knowledge of a lockdown.

The driver provided a positive test for cannabis and was arrested. He has a previous ban for drug driving, according to police.

Police said the driver's car was not seized, but left in a 'safe location'.

After being released while awaiting his results, police ensured that he and his passenger boarded a train back home.

A spokesman from the police said: "The driver did give a positive roadside test [for cannabis], but as he has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing we cannot give further details at this stage.

"The vehicle was not seized, it was left in a safe location at the scene."
