Two tractor fires in Dorset this week have resulted in the need for specialist environment protection kits.

A tractor caught fire on Pitt House Lane in Christchurch yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, February 23).

A large amount of oil and fuel leaked from the tractor so the Environment Agency SW environmental protection equipment was used by firefighters from Poole Fire Station.

Since the tractor was well alight on the road, Dorset traffic police officers and council staff gave support by helping to make the scene safe for firefighters to work.

Two pumps and a water carrier from Christchurch Fire Station were used to fight the fire.

This is the second time this week that a tractor fire has resulted in the need for Environment Agency equipment.

A tractor and trailer caught fire on the B3081 Station Road, Romford, Verwood on Saturday afternoon (February 20) and specialist environmental protection packs were used to avoid damage to a nearby water course.

Despite the crews' best efforts, both the tractor and trailer were completely destroyed by the fire.
