A CAFÉ and petrol station on the A31 at Winterborne Zelston is to be converted into a drive-through coffee shop.

Euro Garages, based in Blackburn, say the work will involve demolishing the existing kiosk, restaurant and forecourt canopy replacing them with a new building which will include a servery for coffee and an ancillary food counter and cash machine.

Dorset Echo: How the site may lookHow the site may look

The number of car parking spaces on the site would reduce from 26 to 20 as a result of the changes, which have been approved by Dorset Council.

The loss of car parking and potential 24-hour opening has led to concerns from some neighbours and the parish council.

It says that while the redevelopment of the dis-used site is to be welcomed it has “extreme concern about the 24-hour nature of the proposal. With the possibility of HGVs using the site, there will be considerable noise and light pollution to those properties immediately alongside the area, as well as to properties in nearby Winterborne Zelston.”

It says that it the past immediate neighbours to the site have found customers sheltering from the rain under their porch, smoking.
