HUGE waves battered sea defences, shutting Portland Beach Road, and leading to flooding.
Emergency Services, including HM Coastguard and paramedics were called to the Chiswell area of Portland at around 9.30pm last night due to the crashing waves, which caused water and debris to run into streets.
Portland Beach Road was closed as a result. One person is believed to have required medical attention.
Crowds gathered higher up on the island to watch the fierce waves batter Chesil Beach and the lower-lying area, following two days of heavy rain and winds in the region.
The Environment Agency had issued a Flood Warning for the area, forecasting sea spray overtopping along the coast as a result of high tides and strong winds.
The warning urged people to be careful along beaches, promenades and coastal footpaths and roads due to the potential danger of large waves.
Owners with property flood resilience equipment were also urged to install it.
