Police are appealing for people to keep a lookout for a missing rhea.

The large bird was spooked on and jumped a fence in the Rodden area near Weymouth on Saturday, December 5.

It has not been seen since.

Rheas are large, flightless birds that are distant relations to emus and ostriches.

They have grey-brown plumage, long legs and long necks.

Males can grow to 1.7 metres in height and when they run, they spread their wings out like sails.

Dorchester Police are asking anyone that has seen the missing Rhea to call them on 101, quoting the reference number 55200185053.
